Itinerary

Walk around St. Augustine Museum on your own and survey the private anthologies and historical exhibits to know the city over 400 years past. Since the time the foundations of St. Augustine were laid by Spanish colonialists in 1565, the coastal city has witnessed transformation under British, French and American rule. St. Augustine is the oldest US city to be established by a European colonial power, and the South Floridian city is presently part of the Jacksonville Metropolitan Area.
 
Delve deep inside the past of this city by meticulously inspecting the submerged and buried Spanish treasure as well as the quaint Timucan village. Learn how Henry Flagler, who co-founded the Standard Oil Company with John D. Rockefeller, established the Florida East Coast Railway. Flagler wanted to develop St. Augustine as a winter retreat for affluent Americans based in the north, and consequently, he purchased numerous short-route railroads.
 
After buying these shorter railroads, Flagler merged them in the year 1885 to establish Florida East Coast Railway. He also pioneered the development of Florida’s Atlantic coastline by constructing a railway bridge spanning the St. Johns River in 1888. You’ll come to know that Henry Flagler played a key role in the development and advancement of transportation and real estate industries in Florida.
 
St. Augustine History Museum has carefully preserved documents, artifacts, and relics that portray the legendary American industrialist’s role in modernizing Florida. You’ll come across precious jewelry, gold and silver retrieved from the sunken treasures off of the coast of Florida. The museum archives inform you that St. Augustine commemorated its 450 birthday by organizing a four-day-long celebration.
